Calling all DJs!!
Will vinyl remain a popular music format for modern DJs?
As part of my degree I have decided to investigate the sustainability of vinyl within the DJ club scene. I have spent my youth DJ'ing, collecting vinyl’s.
But I am now a broke ass lazy student with less money to spend on records, and with the availability of Digital music, I am now a Traktor Scratch user and find that most of the tunes I want are available to download at a fraction of the cost of vinyl.
For me vinyl is no longer such a big deal, and unless I start playing out regularly and get on mailing lists, release my own music or somehow find the desire to spend more money on vinyl again, ill most likely stick with Digital.
But id like to here from you, I know this topic has been discussed in depth across the forums, but for the purposes of my study I have made up my own questionnaire.
If you could spare a little of your time then please follow the link below to my short questionnaire and let me know your views on this subject.

Unfortunately vinyl is dying out but is still strong in some genres. Personally I think CD's might die out pretty soon anyway as peopl move on to serato etc. mixing on cdj's is just not the same.

Vinyl will never die, just won't be as easy to get hold of. This is partly due to the costs involved in making it.
Junglistdubstepper - Just for the record, using Serato is just another aid for DJ's to use. The same could have been said when people started using CD players when they first came out? Being a vinyl dj and now using Serato, all I can say is it beats carrying bags of vinyl to clubs.
Also, being a DJ these days is not just about playing music. It's about being innovative, using technology and keeping the crowd happy. Would you say the same to the likes of Shortee Blitz and Jazzy Jeff. They are examples of taking it to new levels.
I agree that there is software out there that does everything for you - beat match and mix internally. All you have to do is choose the song you want to play. The people that use these are in not really 'real' DJ's and anyone can do that.
