What do you think of the new Apple iPad? If you haven't Seen it yet, here it is -

In a piece of news I haven't seen anywhere yet, a contact of ours who works at a retail outlet says that iPad pre-ordering is definitely in the works. Though Apple could likely rack up enormous sales by putting the device on the market today, seven weeks or so ahead of its launch date, they have not done so, with one observer opining that the delay is likely due to the lack of FCC authorization for the new device.

Our contact (who wishes to remain anonymous for continuing-to-be-employed reasons), passed on some information he got at a meeting about the iPad:

My store manager gave our store a little briefing on the upcoming iPad launch, and he said that customers WILL be able to pre-order and reserve iPad devices. Apple has not announced this yet, or put it in motion. They are waiting until all the correct systems are in place.

Apple says that the WiFi only models will be available sixty days after its announcement last week, which would have the devices hitting stores on the last weekend in March of this year. The manufacturing process is obviously still ramping up, but a reason for the delay in the ability to pre-order the iPad was found by Eliot Van Buskirk of WIRED Magazine's Epicenter blog.

Van Buskirk noted the almost undreadable, very fine print at the bottom of the "Introducing iPad" email many of us got this week:

Some features and applications are not available in all areas. Application availability and pricing are subject to change. This device has not yet been authorized as required by the rules of the Federal Communications Commission. This device is not, and may not be, offered for sale or lease, or sold or leased, until authorization is obtained.

The Federal Communications Commission is the US Government agency charged with regulating the airwaves, and any electronic devices offered for sale in the United States must show that they don't produce harmful emissions or interfere with wireless transmissions. The FCC approved the originaliPhone about a month after Apple announced it in 2007.

Basically its just a bigger version of a iPod Touch.

If you buy one, you should head butt a brick wall for 6 hours and then open your bedroom window, go and get the dish washer from your kitchen and drop it on your nan when shes on your door step.

Are you meant to hold it in your hand and use it?? so you have to use it with one hand, because your other hand will be holding it.. i would get annoyed doing that in about 10 minutes and would smash the whole thing up tbh.

I had a touch screen phone before, pissed me off so i smashed it and i will never get a touch screen phone or iPod Touch/iPhone ever.
